MAKE YOUR OWN ALOE VERA GEL - INSTRUCTIONS

How easy it is to make your own aloe vera gel

This is how it works: Make your own aloe vera gel

To make your own aloe vera gel, you need the following "ingredients":

  • Organic aloe vera fresh leaf
  • Sharp, sterile knife
  • Sterile spoon or blunt knife
  • Glass or small bowl
  • Sealable, empty container Preferably made of glass (sterile)

Step 1:

First, cut a thin slice off the fresh aloe vera leaf so that the dried end is removed and fresh juice can drip out.

Step 2:

Now place the cut leaf in your jar with the cut side facing down. Leave it in the jar for approx. 30 minutes. The leaf should be upright the whole time.
This step ensures that the poisonous, yellow-brown juice runs out.

Step 3:

Now remove the yellow-brown juice (aloin) that has run out in the meantime.

Step 4:

Now use the sharp knife to carefully cut off the spiky side edges of the leaf, then cut the leaf in half lengthwise between the two green leaf rinds. Take the sterile spoon or blunt knife and scrape the aloe vera gel out of the two halves of the leaf. Rinse briefly under running water, then pat dry.

Step 5:

You can puree the gel tongue obtained in this way with a hand blender or in a mixer and then place it in the sealable sterile container.

Homemade aloe gel: tips on storage & shelf life

It is important that you store the aloe vera gel in the refrigerator. It will keep for a week.

But you can also make the gel last longer. To do this, you first need to add vitamin C powder or vitamin E oil (tocopherol) to the aloe vera gel.

Dosage:

Per 100 g of aloe vera gel:

  • either 1 g vitamin C powder
  • or 10 to 20 drops of tocopherol

Then puree the mixture and put it in the fridge too. You can also put it in an ice cube tray and then put it in the freezer.

This way, your gel will keep for up to 4 weeks, as both the powder and the drops have an antioxidant effect - so they are like a preservative.

Reasons why you should make your own aloe vera gel

The aloe vera plant has been considered a medicinal plant for thousands of years. So it is no wonder that it is also found in many cosmetic products (skin care cream, mask, shower gel, body lotion, aftershave, etc.). However, these products do not contain fresh aloe vera gel, which is particularly rich in active ingredients. That's why many people choose to make their own fresh aloe vera gel, the homemade fresh aloe vera gel still contains all the nutrients and only those additional substances that you add yourself, so you know what's actually in the gel!

Of course, it is also important that the fresh leaves are of certified organic quality. Because aloe really only needs enough sun, dry soil and little but pure water...

With an organic fresh leaf from the Aloe Base plantation, you can enjoy the full and purest active ingredients. And even if you preserve it as described above, you are using natural preservatives.

Conclusion: It's best to do it yourself!

Interesting facts about aloe vera

Want to know more about the aloe vera plant? We have collected some facts for you here:

  • The leaves consist of three layers: outer bark, juice, gel tongue
  • The outer bark and the sap are poisonous (they contain aloin. This has a strong laxative effect and can even cause symptoms of poisoning)
  • Aloin and the thorns protect the plant from predators
  • The plant's gel stores nutrients and, above all, water
  • The nutrients it contains are mainly carbohydrates, vitamins, enzymes, minerals and amino acids
  • The juice from the leaves can heal injuries to the plant
  • The gel from the plants has a positive effect on us: It has an anti-inflammatory effect, strengthens the immune system and promotes wound healing
  • Aloe plants only have a lot of active ingredients after about 3 years. For optimum effect, it is therefore best to use a plant that has already reached at least this age. Younger plants also do not tolerate the cutting off of a leaf (i.e. the loss of the leaf) so well.
